GloPoWriMo – Day 8

The Mask Wearer

04-08-20_4-03-40_PM

She wakes up every morning

Her marble tears run down her marble face.

Wearing masks

To hide the pain

She lies for a living

Portraying someone

Who’s happy, in love, successful, fulfilled

Someone she’s not

She hates the reflection

Staring back at her

In the mirror

The terror

On the screen she’s always

With someone who loves her

In reality,

alone.

Daily Prompt: “peruse the work of one or more of these twitter bots, and use a line or two, or a phrase or even a word that stands out to you, as the seed for your own poem.” From Na/GloPoWriMo

The line I chose is from a poem by Anne Carson, tweeted by the Twitter bot @carsonbot.
